SKRIPSI INVESTIGATING INTERJECTION UTTERANCES ON CRISTIANO RONALDO’S TALKSHOW: DIGITAL MEDIA PRACTICES IN ELT

Rapid technological advances encourage and increase technological aids as a means to assist the teaching process. With these advantages, there are supportive learning media that can be used as a tool to support the teaching practice. One of the media that meets those points is talk show video as an audio-visual media. A figure that is famous around the world and often invited to be a guest star in talk shows is Cristiano Ronaldo. One of the linguistic features that naturally occurred in communication is an interjection. The interjections is related to speaking skills since it is a sound that occurred naturally to express feelings through words. However, most students do not know the classifications and functions of interjection even though they use it daily. Moreover, related to educational matters, the interjection learning that the writer experienced in the classroom was limited and taught in a casual way without supportive learning media. This case becomes a reason to conduct this research and relate its implication toward the educational aspect specifically toward digital media practice in ELT.
The objective of this study is to find out the types, functions, and also the dominant types of interjection used on Cristiano Ronaldo’s talk show video as digital media practice in ELT. This study used a qualitative research design and used Stansenko (2017), theory as a point of view on analyzing interjections process. The object of this research is Cristiano Ronaldo Talk Show Videos accessed from YouTube media. The technique of data collection for this research is documentation. The data of this research was obtained from the transcription of Cristiano Ronaldo Talk Show Videos. The writer used theoretical triangulation and expert validation to validate the data of this study.
The result of this research revealed that the talk show contains primary and secondary interjection. Besides, the function of interjections used in the talk show consist of emotive and phatic interjection. The dominant types found was primary interjection with 50 utterances from both speakers. On the other hand, the dominant function used in the talk show was emotive function with 94 utterances along the talk show. The implication of the interjections found in Christiano Ronaldo talk show as a digital media practice in ELT were: (1)Youtube platform provide any useful information for teaching and learning interjection such as the types, functions, and how its use in actual and direct conversation. (2)The use of interjection in actual conversation was included within talk show which presented person-to-person natural conversation and speech. (3)The talk show video could become example and reference to learn about the interjection use for teachers and students.
The writer suggests that other researchers could conduct the similar study to complete and develop interjection analysis with implication to English education studies. The writer suggests that the data and analysis in this research could become a reference for teachers and lecturers to present a source of interjection in practical or actual conversation. The writer hopes that this interjection can be developed to be a learning material for interjection teaching learning in classroom. The writer also suggests that students understand the theory of interjection used in daily activity since most of them are not familiar with this but actually it is important for them to enhance their speaking skill.
