English is widely used and spoken around the globe. It affects every aspect of the job. The paramount element of acquiring a foreign or second language is the aptitude to communicate effectively. This study aims to identify the material requirements of the personnel at the Borobudur World Heritage Museum and Cultural Heritage and create an English flipbook to increase the speaking skill necessary for the workers at the museum. The author employs the Research and Development (R&D) technique. The data-gathering methodology used in this study includes analysis, design, and development.
The data comprises the requirements analysis questionnaire, the flipbook assessment questionnaire from the Borobudur World Heritage Museum and Cultural Heritage staff, and the expert judgment provided by Dr. Sri Sarwanti, M. Hum. and Moch. Malik Al Firdaus, M.Pd. The writer discovered that among a total of 27 staff members, none were deemed to be very proficient. 5 out of 27 staff members, or 18.5%, were considered proficient. 11 out of 27 staff members, or 40.7%, were deemed neutral. 10 out of 27 staff members, or 37%, were found to be lacking proficiency. Lastly, 1 out of 27 staff members, or 3.7%, were highly deficient in English language abilities, mainly speaking. The author opted to employ a feasibility formula (Sugiyono, 2015) to ascertain the flipbook's viability. The author employed the Alpha Cronbach formula to assess the reliability of the study. The average feasibility score obtained from the feedback questionnaire is 54.63%. The average feasibility score obtained from the expert judgment questionnaire is 80.55%.
The writer includes a video in each chapter of the flipbook to provide the staff with a desired and effective learning medium to enhance their speaking abilities. The flipbook exhibits considerable potential for further improvement and needs many adjustments, as advised by the expert. Furthermore, the flipbook can effectively compensate for the deficient oral communication abilities of the Borobudur World Heritage Museum and Cultural Heritage personnel. Additionally, this flipbook can serve as a valuable educational tool for anyone seeking to enhance their oral communication abilities, particularly in English for Hospitality or Professional Purposes.
