SKRIPSI IMPLEMENTING PEER LESSON STRATEGY TO ENHANCE STUDENTS' WRITING SKILL ON RECOUNT TEXT IN HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION

Writing is one of the important English skills for students to learn. Writing is demanding because students must comprehend grammatical structure, vocabulary, punctuation, and mechanics. Senior high school students should be able to compose a text to transmit information or messages to others. It is evident that in order to write successfully, language learners must master all of the criteria. By using an interesting strategy, students’ writing skill could be improved and can reduce difficulty for them. The objectives of this study were (1) to know if the peer lesson strategy is improving the 10th graders’ writing skill and (2) to find out how effective the peer lesson strategy in improving the 10th graders’ writing skill. The writer conducted a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was divided into Pre-Cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The subjects of this study were 36 students in the 10th graders of SMA Negeri 10 Purworejo. The writer used observation, tests, interviews, and documentation to collect data. The result of this study indicates that students' writing skill are improved in receiving implementation of peer lesson strategy in writing recount text. The writer compared the results of Cycle I and Cycle II to find out the improvement in students' writing skill. In Cycle I the average of student's written tests was 60,05 which belongs to the fair category and in Cycle II, it was 70,05 which belongs to the good category. The implementation of peer lesson strategy on recount text in this learning process can improve students’ writing skill in the learning process of writing to recount text. Therefore, the writer suggests to the teacher to use an interesting strategy while teaching and the peer lesson strategy can be an alternative strategy. For students, it is better to improve their recount text writing skill by applying peer lesson strategy.
