Reading is one of the skills that is important for knowledge and information acquisition in daily life. Reading helps students increasing their knowledge. The act of reading by students enhances and augments their proficiency in the writing ability. In SMA N 1 Banjarnegara, the writer found that they have practiced reading literacy for 15 minutes every Tuesday to Thursday. The problem that the writer found was students struggle to begin writing because they have limited vocabularies and unstructured ability in making sentences into paragraphs. The main issue was that the student's writing abilities are insufficient due to their limited reading comprehension of English-language literature. This study is designed to examine the correlation between students' reading literacy and their writing skill based on cases from eleventh-grade students at SMA N 1 Banjarnegara. This study was carried out using a correlational design with quantitative approach. The sample for this study consisted of XI – 10 SMA N 1 Banjarnegara students in the academic year 2023/2024. The total of students was 36, consists of 19 females and 17 males. The data collection technique used were questionnaire and writing test. The result showed there is correlation between students’ reading literacy and their ability to write a hortatory exposition. It was proven from the result of coefficient correlation that showed the rxy (0.511) > r table (0.329). Based on this study, the correlation between students’ reading literacy and their ability to write a hortatory exposition is belong to medium correlation. Based on the aforementioned findings, the writer draws the conclusion that students with strong reading literacy will also have strong writing skills. Students' writing abilities will automatically improve with regular and continuous reading literacy.
