Learning vocabulary is the main requirement in constructing a sentence in a language. Mastering vocabulary will make it easier for someone to communicate with others. Lack of comprehension of the meaning of idioms in conversation or writing can cause miscommunication. For this reason, understanding the meaning of idioms needs to be improved among the students. To overcome this problem, this research was carried out, which was aimed at analyzing the meaning of idiomatic expressions in a film. The results of this study are expected to be used as a reference for students to understand the real meaning of idiomatic expressions in the Ocean's eight movie dialogue. This research focuses on students in the first semester who learned idiomatic expressions in the Reading Intensive Course. The object of this research was the transcript of Ocean's 8 vocabularies, which was downloaded via sudbl.com. The writer used documentation and herself as the instruments in this study. This was done because this research is qualitative, so the writer's role is crucial in conducting research. Apart from that, the writer used note-taking techniques to collect research data. The results of the research showed there were five types of idioms: similes idioms 15%, proverbs idioms 12%, euphemisms idioms 9%, binomials idioms 6%, clichés and fixed statements 58% and other language idiom 0% because no occurrences were found at all. The writer also found two kinds of meanings in the idioms based on the semantic branch: conceptual meaning and lexical meaning. From this research, cliché and fixed statement idioms are types of idioms that humans often use in everyday life. The writer also found that the meaning of idioms is categorized into two categories: conceptual and lexical meanings. The writer hoped that this study could be implemented by teachers who want to teach students about idiomatic expressions and that students also can apply these ways to improve their vocabulary.
