SKRIPSI ANALISIS PENGARUH MIXED ADHESIVE DAN KEKASARAN PERMUKAAN ADHEREND TERHADAP SAMBUNGAN TUMPANG TUNGGAL ALUMINIUM-KOMPOSIT COCOFIBER
ABSTRACT
The automotive industry is one of the industrial sectors that is striving to improve vehicle fuel efficiency. The need to reduce environmental impact has driven light-weighting efforts in automotive industry. The use of adhesives in the automotive industry, particularly for single lap joints, can result in shorter production times. This study aims to examine the effect of using a mixed adhesive of epoxy-latex on the shear strength of single lap joints between 5083 aluminum and cocofiber-reinforced composites. Single lap joints are made by joining 5083 aluminum and composites measuring 101,6 x 25,4 x 2 mm using a mixed adhesive of epoxy (EP) and latex (GK) with compositions of 8% GK: 92% EP, 12% GK: 88% EP, and 16% GK: 84% EP. The applied adhesive thickness is 0,2 mm. Surface roughness will use sandpaper #60, #180, and #320. The single lap joint is then tested for its shear tensile strength with reference to ASTM D1002. The results showed that the highest shear strength was achieved with a mixed adhesive composition of 16% GK: 84% EP using sandpaper #320, which is 1,61 MPa. The highest elongation was obtained with a mixed adhesive composition of 12% GK: 88% EP at 9,65 %, and the modulus of elasticity was obtained with a mixed adhesive variation of 16% GK: 84% EP at 52,26 MPa. Macroscopic observation results show that the failure modes experienced by the single lap joint are thin layer cohesive failure and cohesive failure.
