SKRIPSI PENGARUH JARAK TANAM DAN TINGKAT PENGURANGAN DAUN (Defoliasi) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN DAN HASIL TANAMAN KACANG TUNGGAK (Vigna unguiculata (L) Walp.)

ABSTRACT
The research entitled 'THE EFFECT OF PLANT SPACING AND THE DEFOLIATION LEVEL ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF COWPEAS (Vigna unguiculata (L) Walp.) was begun on October 31, 1992 until January 30, 1993 and carried out at Kedung- sari, sub district North Magelang, the soil was lathosol type, pH 6,5 on 380 meters altitude. The research has used Factorial experiment method with Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) in which have two factors and three replication. The first fac- tor the plant spacing of three levels: J1 (Plant spacing of 40 cm x 20 cm), J2 (Plant spacing of 40 cm x 30 cm) and J3 (Plant spacing of 40 cm x 40 cm). The second fac- tor defoliation level of four levels: Do (Without defo- liation or control), D₁ (Defoliation level of 20%), D2 (Defoliation level of 40%) and D3 (Defoliation level of 60%). From the result these research showed that the plant spacing factor highly significant different on the height of plant, total of filled pods, fresh weight of straw, dry weight of straw, dry weight of sees per plot and harvest index parameter, but not significant diffe- rent on the one hundred weight of seeds parameter.
Defoliation level factor highly significant diffe- rent on the height of plant parameter, but not signifi- cant different on the total of filled pods, fresh weight of straw, dry weight of straw, one hundred weight of seeds, dry weight of seed per plot and harvest index pa- rameters. Interaction between the plant spacing factor and de foliation level factor no significant different on all of these parameters. The result treatment combination mean on the highest dry weight of seed. per plot can reach at plant spacing factor of 40 cm x 20 cm and defoliation level factor of 40% (J1D2). Because no interaction between the plant spacing factor, then the two factors could be applied onseparation that is use the plant spacing fac- tor of 40 cm x 20 cm (J1) or defoliation level factor of 40% (D2).
