English is a crucial global communication tool, for students to succeed in various aspects of life. However, students often face difficulties in effectively expressing their emotions and understanding the connotations of emotive language, which is partly attributed to limited exposure of reading text of Merdeka Curriculum Textbooks. This study aims to analyze emotive language in the "Bahasa Inggris Tingkat Lanjut" textbook, identify the types of emotive language present, and assess their distribution. The research problem addresses the need to help student’s express emotions effectively and comprehend the nuances of emotive language. In this study, the writer conducted qualitative research and utilizes the Merdeka Curriculum and the "Bahasa Inggris Tingkat Lanjut" textbook, focusing on the reading text. The analysis involves identifying and categorizing different types of emotive language present in the textbook based on Jakobson’s (1960) theory, with a particular emphasis on their distribution. The study also provides the percentage distribution of each type of emotive language appearing in the textbook. The analysis reveals the percentage distribution of various types of emotive language in the textbook, with displeasure and worry being the most prominent (21%), surprise and hope (9.8%), like (8%), dear (6.5%), gratitude (3.2%), and want, intention, desire, dissatisfaction (1.6%). These findings provide insights into the prevalence of emotive language in the learning context. The function of emotive language which is mostly appear displeasure and worry is to convey negative emotions and reactions. The role of emotive language in the "Bahasa Inggris Tingkat Lanjut" Merdeka Curriculum Textbook extends to linguistic advancement, embracing emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and proficiency in communication Understanding the distribution of emotive language in textbooks has implications for curriculum development, textbook authoring, and educators. The findings highlight the importance of incorporating emotive language into learning materials to help students’ express emotions and understand nuances.
