SKRIPSI USING NINO’S HOME VIDEOS TO IMPROVE PROCEDURE TEXT WRITING SKILLS FOR THE NINTH GRADERS OF SMP NEGERI 3 TEMANGGUNG

The implementation of the learning process in English subjects is done by developing the habit of reading, and writing. In writing class, the students should be able to create and share their thoughts in words. However, many students had difficulties in writing due to their lack of writing knowledge, including in writing procedure texts. The difficulties came from both internal and external factors. Internal factors are related to students' self-ability in learning, while external factors are from students' environments, such as teachers' ways of teaching or class situations.
To overcome the problems, the writer conducted a research that focuses on improving students’ writing skills using the “Nino’s Home” videos as teaching media. The aim was to know on "Nino’s Home" videos effect in improving the ninth graders’ writing skills. This research also has a goal to find if “Nino’s Home" videos could help improve the ninth graders’ motivation in writing procedure text.
This research applied classroom action research, with the subject of the research being 32 students of the 9 F class from SMP Negeri 3 Temanggung. The writer used tests, observation, questionnaires, and documentation as research instruments. The research was conducted in three phases: Pre-Cycle, Cycle 1, and Cycle 2. It was conducted in four steps namely planning, acting, observing, and reflecting.
The results of the research showed that the students’ skills in writing procedure texts and motivation improved after being taught using “Nino’s Home” In Pre-Cycle, the percentage of students’ motivation was 40.04%, 61.60% in Cycle 1, and 79.72% in Cycle 2. The mean of students’ writing scores in Pre-Cycle was 55.35, 70.34 in Cycle 1, and 77.81 in Cycle 2.
It can be concluded that using the “Nino’s Home” videos as teaching media can improve students’ writing skills and students’ motivation in learning Procedure Text. These media make students participate enthusiastically during the teaching–learning process.
