SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING DIGITAL STORYTELLING IN TEACHING NARRATIVE TEXT TO IMPROVE SPEAKING SKILL OF THE TENTH-GRADE STUDENTS AT MAN TEMANGGUNG

English is an International language that requires students to be able to communicate in English. Speaking is one of the fundamental skills that must be considered in learning English based on the Merdeka Curriculum. However, developing speaking skills is complex. The students must be highly motivated and actively engaged in the classroom speaking activities. Therefore, the teachers must be able to provide good learning media that can manage students' interest during the learning process. The objective of the study is t o reveal whether the students who are taught using the Digital Storytelling as learning medium have better speaking skill than those who are taught using textbooks and its measurement of improvement. The study employed the quasi - experimental research desi gn with the purposive random sampling technique. The sample was 71 tenth - grade students from two classes. The experimental group was XL with 36 students and XK as the control group contains 35 students. The experimental group was taught using the Digital Storytelling as learning media and the control group was using the textbooks. The data of pre - test and post - test were analyzed using the t - test. After analyzing the data, Independent t - test result was lower than 0.05 (Sig. (2 - tailed) .000 < 0.05). It showed that there is a difference significancy between the experimental and the control groups in terms of speaking skill. The post - test means score comparison between the experimental and the control group were also pointed out that the experimental gr oup had better scores in the post - test than the control group (87.06 > 81.09). According to the elaboration, the writer briefly summarized that the Digital Storytelling could be an effective media to improve speaking skill of the tenth - grade students. Th is learning media is helpful for the teacher to attract students’ attention and increase their speaking fluency during the teaching - learning process.
