The writer collected the data through documentation. The data were analyzed by classifying the clause and identifying the clause complex, focusing on the logico-semantic relation according to the theory of Halliday and Matthiessan (2014).
Data analysis reveals 227 logico-semantic relations, including expansion and projection. In general, the most frequent logico semantic found is expansion which appears in 182 times (80.18 %). Then in specific there are expansion extension, which appears 69 times (30.40 %). Followed by expansion enhancement that occurred 60 times (26.43 %), and expansion elaboration in 53 times (23.35 %). Next, the projection found 33 times (14.54 %) for locution and 12 times (5.29 %) for idea.
Based on the result of the study, it can be concluded that the reading text in the textbook contains all the types of logico semantic relations, though not every text contains all the logico semantic types completely. From this research, teachers are supported in developing learning materials related to teaching reading by the pedagogical implications of this study. In addition, the clause complex relation also helps the students understand the content of the text by looking at the connection between clauses.
