Keywords: Fishbone Strategy, writing skill, analytical exposition text Writing is one of the four skills to be developed in learning English. Writing is crucial for language learners since it serves as a tool for communication and allows for expressing ideas in paragraph form. However, most of the students admitted that writing is a complex and tedious activity. Therefore, the teacher needs an innovative and efficient teaching strategy to improve the students' activeness and writing skills. In this study, the Fishbone Strategy was implemented to improve the students' writing skills on analytical exposition text. There were two objectives of this study. First, to investigate the students' activeness when the Fishbone Strategy is implemented in the analytical exposition text writing class of eleventh graders of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Kota Magelang. Second, to find out how the Fishbone Strategy improves the students' writing skills in analytical exposition text of eleventh graders of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Kota Magelang. The writer conducted Classroom Action Research (CAR), which consisted of three steps: Pre-Cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The subjects of this study were 21 students of XI IPS 2 of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Kota Magelang in the academic year 2023/2024. The writer used observation, questionnaire, documentation, and test to collect the data. The result of this study indicated that there was a good improvement in students' activeness in analytical exposition writing class after the use of the Fishbone Strategy. It was proven by the results of the observation and questionnaire. The result of the observation in the Pre-Cycle was 50.47%, in Cycle I, it was 65.71%, and lastly, in Cycle II, it was 75.33%. The use of the Fishbone Strategy also improved students' writing skills. This was proven by the results of the test. In the Pre-Cycle, the students' average score was 65.76, in Cycle I, it was 71.28, and in Cycle II, it was 83.04. The writer concluded that the use of the Fishbone Strategy could improve the students' activeness and the students' writing skills in analytical exposition text. Therefore, the writer suggests the teacher use the Fishbone Strategy as an alternative strategy in teaching writing analytical exposition text.
