SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF NEARPOD AS LEARNING MEDIA ON THE SEVENTH GRADERS' READING COMPREHENSION AT SMPN 2 MERTOYUDAN

Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Nearpod, Learning Media, Junior High School Reading is an essential English skill that students must master. A key part of this skill is reading comprehension, where students derive meaning from text. To help students in developing reading comprehension, teachers can employ various strategies, including interactive media like Nearpod. Nearpod is an educational platform with several interactive features for teaching. This study aims to determine if there is a significant difference in reading comprehension between students who are taught using Nearpod and those who are not, and to investigate Nearpod's effect size on the seventh graders at SMPN 2 Mertoyudan. This quasi-experimental study employed a non-equivalent design. The population consisted of 224 seventh graders from SMPN 2 Mertoyudan in the 2023/2024 academic year, divided into seven classes. The sample included two classes, 7B and 7c as the control and experimental class. The study utilized reading tests and teaching administration documents as instruments. The Results indicates that the experimental group, which used Nearpod, has a mean post-test score of 75.46, while the control group has a mean score of 65.78. An independent sample t-test shows a significant difference between the two groups, with a Sig. Value (2-tailed) of 0.037, which is less than the significance level of 0.05 (0.037 < 0.05). Thus, the null hypothesis is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. The effect size calculation reveals value of 0.53, indicating a medium effect. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First Nearpod is effective on the reading comprehension of the seventh graders. Second, Nearpod shows a medium effect. Nearpod is effective because Nearpod provides several features that can be used in pre-reading, while reading, and post-reading. The interactive features of Nearpod aslo help students engage and make learning more accessible. Therefore, teachers may consider using Nearpod during teaching-learning activities.
