SKRIPSI THE USE OF COMIC STRIPS IN CONTEXTUAL TEACHING AND LEARNING TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ RECOUNT TEXT WRITING SKILLS OF EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS

Keywords: recount text, CTL method, writing skill, comic stripsWriting can help students to pick up new language structures provided in writing and learn how to make paragraphs from writing. However, junior high school students in Indonesia, including SMP IT Ihsanul Fikri Magelang Regency, still have problems in writing, especially in writing recount text such as, insufficient motivation, limited vocabulary, and boring teaching methods. The writer researched the students’ writing recount text skills using the Contextual Teaching and Learning method with comic strips media, which encourages students’ interest in learning and interaction and improves their writing recount text skills.There are two main objectives of this research. First, to know whether the use of comic strip with the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) method can increase students’ motivation in learning recount text writing skills of eighth-grade students of SMP IT Ihsanul Fikri. Second, to know the improvement of the students’ recount text writing skills of the eighth-grade students of SMP IT Ihsanul Fikri after being taught using comic strips with the CTL method.This study used Classroom Action Research. The subject of this research is VIII G students of SMP IT Ihsanul Fikri in the school year 2023/2024, which consists of 32 students. The writer used non-tests (observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation) and test to collect the data. The research was carried out in PreCycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. Then, the results of the test were analyzed using Roger Fowler’s formula. The writer also used Miles, Huberman, and Saldana to explore the result of non-test.
