Keywords: Reading Assignment, HOTS, TextbookBased on the 2013 curriculum, higher order thinking is a skill that must be developed by students. Bahasa Inggris, an official textbook supplied by the Ministry of Education in 2017 for the eleventh graders of senior high school, was a textbook based on the 2013 curriculum. The exercise that trains the most higher order thinking skills is reading because the crucial aspect of the reading process is teaching students how to construct meaning, evaluate, and synthesize what they have read. However, not all the reading assignments comprise content that trains students’ higher order thinking skill.This research aims to examine the distribution of higher order thinking skills based on the revised edition of Bloom's taxonomy by Anderson and Krathwohl (2001) in the reading assignment items of English textbook for the eleventh graders of senior high school.This research used descriptive qualitative approach to analyze kinds of higher order thinking skills found in the revised edition of Bahasa Inggris textbook that was published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia in 2017. The writer collected the data through documentation. inside the textbook and receives fifteen reading text with 97 assignment items to analyze. In analyzing the data, the writer used the theory of higher order thinking skills by Anderson and Krathwohl (2001). The procedure used in this research is interactive models by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014) that are (1) Data Condensation, (2) Data Display, and (3) Conclusion drawing/ verification to analyze the data.
