SKRIPSI AN ANALYSIS OF PERLOCUTIONARY ACTS IN AVENGER: ENDGAME MOVIE AND ITS IMPLICATION IN LISTENING COURSE FOR THE 2ND SEMESTER STUDENTS

ALZAR PUTRA PRASTHA - Nama Orang;

Language plays an important role in the communication process. The primary aim of communication is delivering a speaker's message to a listener. Misunderstandings in communication often arise when students fail to infer the intended speech acts correctly. When listeners make inferences, they are actively engaged in understanding the implied meaning or intended message. This research used qualitative method to analyze perlocutionary acts in movie and its implication on listening course for 2nd semester students. Focusing on the movie "Avengers: Endgame," the study analyzed the types of perlocutionary act namely, persuading, convincing, amusing, insulting, and scaring perlocutionary acts used by characters to influence audience perception and emotional response. The analysis reveals 13 utterances of persuading, 22 utterances of convincing, 16 utterances of amusing, 8 utterances of insulting, and 14 utterances of scaring perlocutionary acts in the movie. The most dominant perlocutionary act is convincing, with 22 utterances found throughout the movie. While the least dominant perlocutionary act is insulting, with only 8 utterances identified in the movie. Additionally, the study analyzed the implications for the 2nd semester students. By utilizing qualitative method, the research elucidates the role of movies as effective educational tools for practicing inference skills, interpreting non-verbal cues, and enhancing micro skill in listening
