SKRIPSI USING THE COMBINATION OF ANAGRAM TECHNIQUE AND WORDWALL WEBSITE TO IMPROVE THE FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY IN SD NEGERI BANYUURIP 1 MAGELANG

Website Vocabulary is crucial for communication and should be learned first. Teaching vocabulary can be challenging for teachers in teaching students to acquire words to enhance English lessons. However, based on the writer observation in fourth grade students of SD Negeri Banyuurip 1 Kabupaten Magelang, it was found the students still got difficulty in mastering vocabulary. It is indicated that 40% of students still cannot reach the minimum score of 75. Monotonous techniques and media used by teachers cause low student motivation in mastering vocabulary. Interesting techniques and media need to be used to improve students' vocabulary mastery and learning motivation. Based on the problem above, this study is intended to find out whether Anagram Technique and Wordwall Website can improve students’ vocabulary mastery for the fourth grade of SD Negeri Banyuurip 1 and to find out how can the combination of the Anagram technique and the Wordwall website improve students’ motivation in learning vocabulary for the fourth grade of SD Negeri Banyuurip 1. The writer conducted a Classroom Action Research (CAR). This study was divided into Pre-Cycle, Cycle 1, and Cycle 2. The subject of this research was the class of four of SD Negeri Banyuurip 1 involving 17 students. The writer used test, observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation to collect the data. In analyzing data, the writer used qualitative and quantitative measurement to find out the result. The writer found that the use of Anagram Technique and Wordwall Website can improve students’ vocabulary mastery. Based on the Pre-Cycle test, the average score of vocabulary test 40.59. After the writer applies Anagram Technique and Wordwall Website, the students’ average score in Cycle 1 test is 70.29 while in Cycle 2 test it reaches 85.29. The improvement from Pre-Cycle test to Cycle 1 test is 29.7 points, and from Cycle 1 test to Cycle 2 test is 15 points. Overall, the total improvement from Pre-Cycle test to Cycle 2 test is 44.7 points. The use of Anagram Technique and Wordwall Website also makes improvement in students learning motivation. From the result observation, questionnaire, and interview, they indicate that the students’ motivation in mastering vocabulary was good. The result of observation in Pre-Cycle is 44.70% and it becomes 80.58 % in Cycle 2. The total improvement is 35.88%. Based on the results, the writer concludes that the use of Anagram Technique and Wordwall Website can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery and the students’ motivation in mastering vocabulary for the fourth grade of SD Negeri Banyuurip 1. The writer suggests the teachers and the students to use Anagram Technique and Wordwall Website as an alternative teaching and learning.
