Keywords: Pragmatics, Deixis, Abstract Writing is part of communication; it conveys an individual's opinions, feelings, and knowledge. Deixis, a concept studied in pragmatics, is utilized in writing to avoid repetition of words, phrases, or information, thus making the text more effective. Unfortunately, some students at Universitas Tidar have not properly applied deixis in their abstracts, which is essential for summarising research. This study aims to achieve two objectives. The first is to analyze the most dominant type of deixis used by Sociolinguistics class students in writing abstracts for educational articles. The second is to interpret the most dominant type of deixis in students' abstracts. This research is limited to introducing the types and functions of deixis to help students master and apply them in their writing. The study's results were presented and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The subjects were 15 Sociolinguistics students who wrote educational articles individually. Data collection was done using the documentation method. The data were analyzed using Alan Cruse's (2000) deixis theory. The findings revealed 139 words or phrases indicating deixis, with spatial deixis being the most dominant, appearing 61 times or 43.89% of the occurrences. This dominance is likely due to the importance of stating the location of the research or data collection in abstracts. Mastering and accurately applying deixis will help students gain a deeper understanding of learning English, serving as a pedagogical implication of this study. Furthermore, mastering deixis will prevent ineffective writing. Therefore, it is recommended that lecturers provide more in-depth explanations of deixis and students pay closer attention to using deixis in their writing, particularly in abstracts.
