SKRIPSI MAGELANG THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE MARKET-PLACE-ACTIVITY STRATEGY TO ENHANCE THE SECOND-YEAR STUDENTS’ PROCEDURE TEXT READING SKILL AT SMA TARAKANITA MAGELANG

Keywords: Market-Place-Activity, Procedure text, and Reading skill Reading is one of the language skills needed to learn a language, including English. Students should master reading skill because it helps them in every aspect of life. However, most students find problems in their reading skill and the teachers' learning strategy is not interesting. The students had low motivation in reading and low vocabulary mastery, affecting their reading skill. This research aims to found out the difference between the reading skill of students taught using the MarketPlace-Activity strategy and those taught using the lecture strategy. This research also determined whether the Market-Place-Activity strategy was effective in enhancing student’s reading skill. This research was an experimental study. The subjects of this research were the second-year students of SMA Tarakanita Magelang, with a total member of 81 students. The research sample comprised 25 students as the control group and 34 students as the experimental group. The writer used a test as an instrument and was given twice as pre-test and post-test. After conducting the pre-test and also the posttest the writer calculated the score with Brown’s (2004) analytic assessing score.
