SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING FLASHCARD AND SHARED WRITING STRATEGY IN TEACHING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT WRITING SKILL TO THE SEVENTH GRADERS OF SMPN 3 MUNTILAN

Based on the writer’s observation at SMP Negeri 3 Muntilan, the writer found problems that might become obstacles in writing. Problems in learning writing occured from the side of the teacher and students. The writer focused on the problem of the media and learning strategies used by teachers are monotonous. The writer also limited this study to teaching descriptive text writing using flashcard and shared writing strategy to improve students’ writing skill. The purpose of this study was: (1) to find out whether there is a significant difference of students’ descriptive text writing skill of the seventh graders of SMPN 3 Muntilan between those who are taught by using flashcard and shared writing strategy and those who are taught by using a textbook and independent writing strategy, (2) to find out the effectiveness of flashcard and shared writing strategy in teaching descriptive text writing skill to the seventh graders of SMPN 3 Muntilan. This study was experimental research. The sample of this research was 64 students from two classes of 7th from SMPN 3 Muntilan. The sample was collected by purposive sampling. The writer used writing test as the research instrument. It was conducted pre-test and post-test for writing test. The data was analyzed using quantitative method. The writing test was analyzed using SPSS conducted classical test (normality test, homogeneity test, and linearity test) and hypothesis testing (independent sample t-test and one way ANOVA). Based on the independent sample t-test result, namely value Sig. (2-tailed) obtained was 0.000 which means lower than 0.05. It can be stated that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted and means there was significant difference in the writing skill between the students who were taught by using flashcard and share writing strategy and those who were taught by using textbook and independent writing strategy. The ANOVA test result also showed that the Sig. value is 0.000 (
