SKRIPSI THE USE OF SHORT SILENT MOVIES TO IMPROVE THE ELEVENTH GRADERS’ NARRATIVE TEXT WRITING SKILL OF SMA MUHAMMADIYAH 1 KOTA MAGELANG

Keywords: Writing Skill, Short Silent Movies, Narrative Text, Classroom Action Research, Senior High School Student Mastering writing is crucial for students at all educational levels to achieve their English learning objectives. However, there are many problems to learn writing skill since it needs continuous practice and interaction. Furthermore, the choice of teaching media in the Kurikulum Merdeka can influence students' motivation to learn, compounding these problems. To overcome the problem, the writer is interested in conducting research that focuses on improving students writing skill using the Short Silent Movie media. The aims are to know if the Short Silent Movie media is improving the 11th graders’ motivation of writing skill and to find out how significant the Short Silent Movie media is in improving the 11th graders’ writing skill. The study employed the classroom action research. The subject of the research was 21 students of 11th IPS 2 from SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Kota Magelang. The writer used tests, observation, questionnaires, and documentation as the research instruments. The research was conducted in three phases Pre-Cycle, Cycle 1, and Cycle 2. It was conducted in four steps namely planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The results of the research showed that the students’ writing skill and students’ motivation improved. In Pre-Cycle the percentage of students’ motivation is 50%, 76% in Cycle 1, and 90% in Cycle 2. The mean of students’ writing skill in Pre-Cycle is 49.81, Cycle 1 is 69.52, and in Cycle 2 is 82.67. This means that the short silent movies significantly enhanced students' motivation and writing skills. This media makes students to be more motivated during teaching-learning process.
