SKRIPSI USING SPOTIFY FOR PODCASTERS TO IMPROVE THE TENTH GRADERS LISTENING SKILLS OF RECOUNT TEXT AT SMA N 1 SALAMAN

Keywords: Spotify for Podcasters; Listening; Teaching English Listening is an important skills and has a significant role in effective communication. Listening skills can influence personal relationships with the environment. Individuals need to have good listening skills in order to make the communication. In the case at SMA N 1 Salaman, students have problems with listening skills, such as, students feeling bored with the learning carried out, lack of learning innovation used in teaching recount text, students have difficulty understanding the words they hear, lack of students’ interest in learning English, there are limitations in choosing the audio they listened to during listening lessons. The audio facilities only focus on one loudspeaker; besides that, teachers use the lecture center learning method when teaching. To overcome those problems, the writer carried out research on the students’ listening skills of recount text by using Spotify for Podcasters. The methodology of this research was Classroom Action Research. The subject of this research was the tenth-graders of SMA N 1 Salaman in the school year 2023/2024. The total number of students’ was 36. The writer used tests and non-tests to collect the data. The test was a listening test, and the non-tests were observation, questionnaire, and documentation. Based on the questionnaire and observation, the use of Spotify for Podcasters improves the score of students’ listening skills. The discussion of the research showed that the Pre-cycle score is 60.8, the Cycle I score is 70, and the Cycle II score is 81.7. It means that using Spotify for Podcasters can improve students’ listening skills in recount text and increase students’ motivation to learn English. In other words, there has been a great improvement in listening skills after using Spotify for Podcasters to teach English. Therefore, Spotify for Podcasters is good to use for learning especially in learning listening skills. Further researchers can use this research as a reference for research using Spotify for Podcasters as a means of improving listening skills. Apart from that, the researchers can use this research with other variables.
