Keywords: Writing, Hortatory Exposition Text, Problem-Based Learning Writing is one of six language skills in the recent curriculum that students should master besides speaking, listening, reading, viewing, and presenting. Based on the observation, this skill was difficult enough to be learned by eleventh graders of SMAN 1 Grabag. Most students still had low vocabulary mastery and found difficulties writing English texts. The average score for writing skills can also prove it was under the standard minimum score, which was 75. According to the eleventh-grade English class teacher, the writer found that many students had difficulty improving their writing skills and how they should start writing a text. They also had trouble finding motivation and interest in writing a text. Hence, some eleventh-grade students had difficulty expressing their ideas in the written material of a text they wanted to write. Thus, the study aimed to know whether the implementation of problem-based learning can have a discernible influence on enhancing learning motivation in acquiring writing skill in Hortatory exposition text. This study was conducted using classroom action research (CAR). Cycle I, Cycle II, and Pre-Cycle were categories. The XI F-2 of SMAN 1 Grabag was used as the research subject during the 2023–2024 academic year. There were 36 students in total. The writer used tests and non-tests to get the data. The writer analyzed data using quantitative methods. The research shows students’ motivation to learn English has significantly increased. From Pre-Cycle to Cycle II, the non-test’s overall improvement progressively rose by 34% points. The students were eager to learn how to write better and find more information about the text. The Pre-Cycle test had an average score of 50. It fits into the category of the fair. The Cycle I test had an average score of 68, whereas the Cycle II test had an average score of 77. Consequently, there was a 27-point increase in the Pre-Cycle to Cycle II score. It entails successfully enhancing students' writing abilities in hortatory exposition texts through problembased learning method. The writer suggest for another researcher could further develop this study with different aspects or learning material and a broader scope in future studies.
