This study is motivated by several problems. Currently, there are many real cases among students that do not reflect the characters of Pancasila student Profile. On the other hand, students also have difficulty comprehending explanation reading texts. In addition, there is also an urgency to maximize the use of smartphones in to support the teaching and learning process. Considering some problems above, this study has three objectives. The first objective is to describe the need for Javanese local wisdom themed based reading materials through android-based learning media for teaching explanation text in Merdeka Curriculum. The second objective is to explain the design and development of the product. The third objective is to elucidates the feasibility of the product. To fulfill the objectives mentioned, this study uses Design and Development Research (DDR) as the methodology. In particular, this study belongs to product and tool research by also emphasizing the specific project phases. This specific project consists of three phases, namely analyze, design and develop, and evaluation. The analyzing phase shows that more sociocultural explanation text reading materials are highly needed by the subjects, especially those related to local wisdom. The subjects also need interactive learning media, such as application. Consequently, the designing and developing phase produces material draft, application flowchart, storyboard, and an application prototype called Xplanity. Finally, this product enters the evaluating phase where it is validated by experts. The reading materials packaged in android-based learning media in the form of an application called Xplanity is considered feasible and worthy to be used. In using the product later, it is suggested that teacher can spark all students’ interest in reading the materials developed. Apart from that, the students’ focus and distraction when reading the materials through the application also need to be paid attention.
