SKRIPSI THE RELATIONSHIP AMONG THE STUDENTS’ READING HABIT, READING STRATEGY, AND READING COMPREHENSION AT SMP NEGERI 9 MAGELANG

Reading is an important skill because reading can add a lot of information and experience. So when reading, readers need to understand the text or content, not only know the words. Thus, reading habits are required so that reading comprehension can increase Apart from having a reading habit, students must also understand how to use reading strategies appropriately to improve their reading comprehension. Recount text is material taught in school. Reading recount text allows students to have new experiences, add information, use it as entertainment, and increase reading comprehension. This study aims to find out the relationship between the students’ reading habits and reading comprehension, the relationship between the students’ reading strategy and reading comprehension, and to find out the relationship among the students’ reading habits, reading strategy, and reading comprehension at SMP N 9 Magelang. This research used quantitative methods with correlation design analysis. The correlation test used Pearson product moment and multiple correlations in SPSS 26. The data collection technique used is a questionnaire and test. The population of this study was a class VIII student at SMP 9 Magelang, with a sample of 62 students. The result of this study is that there is a relationship between reading habits and reading comprehension, as shown in Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.000 and a coefficient of 0.622 or in the high category, there is a relationship between reading strategies and reading comprehension, as indicated by Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.000 and a coefficient of 0.722 or in the high category, and a relationship exists among reading habits, reading strategies, and reading comprehension, as shown in Sig. F changes of 0.000 and R-Value of 0.756 or in the high category. Based on the findings above, there is a significant relationship between reading habits and reading comprehension, a significant relationship between reading strategy and reading comprehension, and a significant relationship among reading habits, reading strategies, and reading comprehension. As for the suggestion, teachers can motivate students to read, provide homework with clear instructions, and give feedback to students with an explanation of the appropriate use of the reading strategy.
