Reading skills are very important for learning and acquiring knowledge. However, many tenth-grade students at MAN Temanggung face challenges in understanding English texts due to low vocabulary levels and lack of interest. Students struggle with basic vocabulary and comprehension, making learning difficult. Traditional methods used are less stimulating, resulting in passivity and disinterest. Therefore, it is necessary to use technology in learning to create a more engaging classroom atmosphere, such as LiveWorksheets.
The objectives of this study were to know whether there is any significant difference between those who are taught by using LiveWorksheets and those who are taught using paper-based worksheets on students’ reading skill and to know the students' perceive of using LiveWorksheets in improving students' reading skill.
This research was quasi-experimental. The subjects were students in tenth grade MAN Temanggung. It used purposive sampling consisting of a control class and an experimental class. Each class consisted of 36 students. The techniques used to collect data were test and non-test. Test data were obtained from pretest and posttest scores, while non-test data were obtained from questionnaires. The test data were analyzed using SPSS, and the non-test data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods.
According to the data analysis, there is a significant difference between the average reading skill scores of students taught using LiveWorksheets and those taught using paper-based worksheets. The results of the Independent Sample T-test show a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.032, which is smaller than the significance level of 0.05. Students' perceptions of LiveWorksheets are very positive. This is evidenced by the level of use of LiveWorksheets as an assessment, which was rated 90.73%. The benefits of LiveWorksheets in readings were rated 93.05%. Additionally, 88.88% of students strongly disagreed that LiveWorksheets has significant weaknesses. Overall, the results show a very high level of approval at 91.55%. Therefore, the use of LiveWorksheets is effective in improving students' narrative text reading skills. Most students agree that LiveWorksheets is an effective and useful tool for reading skills, and they do not perceive any significant drawbacks in its use. Additionally, the researcher recommends that English teachers use LiveWorksheets to teach reading because of its many advantages.
