Keywords: EFL Learning, Speech Act, Sociolinguistics, Teachers UtterancesIn EFL learning, teachers face challenges in using appropriate speech acts to communicate with students due to differences in social and cultural contexts. This research aims to know the kinds of speech acts found in the teacher's utterances while teaching and how teachers' sociolinguistics aspect affects speech act behaviors in the teaching process. This study adopts Austin's (1962) speech act theory, which includes verdictives, commissives, behabitives, expositives, and exercitives to understand the types and functions of speech acts in teachers' utterances during learning. In addition, this study also uses sociolinguistic theory involving aspects of cultural background, power relations, language register, and politeness strategies to analyze the linguistic interaction between teachers and students. This research uses classroom discourse analysis as the primary approach to analyzing the data that has been obtained. After identifying and classifying speech acts, the data is further analyzed by considering sociolinguistic aspects. The results of this sociolinguistic analysis are expected to provide a more comprehensive insight into communication dynamics in an educational setting. The results of this study show the frequency and percentage of speech acts used by teachers in two different contexts, TM (Teacher Mandatory Subject) and TE (Teacher Enrichment Subject). The speech act Exercitives was used most frequently, with a total of 56 times (51%), consisting of 32 times (54.3%) in TM and 24 times (47%) in TE. Furthermore, Expositives were used 31 times (28%), consisting of 12 times (20.3%) in TM and 19 times (37.3%) in TE. Verdictives appeared 11 times (10%), all in the context of TM. The speech act Behabitives is used nine times (8%), with three times (5%) in TM and six times (12%) in TE. The last is that Commissives appeared the least, namely three times (3%), consisting of 1 time (1.7%) in TM and two times (4%) in TE. The total number of speech acts identified in this study is 110 times. For the sociolinguistics context, teacher utterances convey the power relation aspect as the most frequent aspect used.
