Keywords : Readability Level, Descriptive Text, Textbook. Textbooks are a primary resource for students in the English teaching and learning process. The fundamental component of a textbook is the text itself, which aligns with the text-based or genre-based approach implemented by the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesia. However, many students have difficulty understanding the descriptive text. One factor attributed to this is the readability level of the reading passages in the textbook used for instruction. Readability concerns the difficulty level of the text in terms of student comprehension. This study aims to investigate the readability level of descriptive passages in tenth-grade English textbooks used by SMK Bumantara. The textbook "Smart Path to Learning English," written by Indriastuti (2022) and published by Erlangga, serves as the study's focus. The study employs the readability theory from Dubay (2004), specifically utilizing the Flesch Reading Ease formula. A qualitative research methodology is used in this study. The descriptive passages taken from the textbook serve as the objects of analysis. Data was collected through documentation, and the Flesch Reading Ease formula was employed for analysis. This formula is recognized as the most widely used, tested, reliable, and effective for school texts. The findings of the study indicate that are levels of the nine descriptive passages in the tenth-grade English textbook vary. The range spans from very easy to difficult. Specifically, one text was considered easy to read, one text was fairly easy to read, three texts were standard, one text was fairly difficult but appropriate for tenth-grade students, two texts were difficult to read and one text was very difficult to read.
