Keywords: HOTS, Summative Test, English Subjects. Higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) encompass a range of complex cognitive processes, including critical, logical and creative thinking. The use of HOTS is very important in the context of learning test, particularly in relation to summative test in English subjects. However, an analysis of the literature shows that the questions used to assess students in schools are still dominated by Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS) rather than Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The writer focused on the realization of HOTS in English summative test. In addition, this research considers the potential challenges that English educators may face when constructing HOTS-based summative test. In this research uses a descriptive qualitative methodology with summative test as the main research object. To collect data, the author uses interview and documentation methods. Data acquisition will be analyzed using the data analysis model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014). The analysis showed that only 12 (30%) out of 40 English questions in grade eleven were identified as HOTS. Meanwhile, out of 50 English questions in grade twelfth, only 7 (14%) were indicated as HOTS. This indicates that the integration of HOTS in summative English test at SMAN 1 Ngawen is still very limited. Furthermore, the problems faced by the teachers include: 1. Different cognitive levels of each student. 2. Time constraints. 3. Teachers' understanding of the HOTS concept is still lacking. The research findings show that the realization of HOTS in English summative test at SMAN 1 Ngawen is still relatively limited, with a continuing trend towards the use of Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS). This is due to obstacles or problems in the design of HOTS-based questions. Based on the findings, the author recommended that HOTS be used with greater frequency in the preparation of English final examination questions.
