SKRIPSI USING SPIDER WEB STRATEGY TO IMPROVE WRITING SKILL IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT OF THE NINTH GRADERS

Keyword: Spider Web Strategy, English Language Teaching, Writing Skill, Descriptive Text Writing is an important skill that should be taught early on, as it involves expressing ideas and information through written language. Writing has always been an essential tool for artistic expression, information exchange, and communication, and in the current digital era, its significance has only increased. This study was action research. The Spider Web Strategy were applied to improve the students’ skills in learning descriptive text. This research aims to find empirical evidence of whether or not the Spider Web Strategy is improving in English Language Teaching in descriptive text writing skills to the ninth graders of SMPN 2 Mertoyudan and to describe the improvement of descriptive text writing skill and the students’ motivation in learning after the implementation of the Spider Web Strategy. The participants in this study consisted of 32 ninth-grade students from SMPN 2 Mertoyudan, with permission from the school. The writer uses test and non-test to collect data. The test is about writing skill tests while the non-test is observation, questionnaire, and documentation. The finding of the study indicate that the use of the Spider Web Strategy significantly improves the descriptive text writing skill of the ninth graders. The study results indicated that the scores were 63.31 in the Pre-Cycle, 72.53 in Cycle I, and 84 in Cycle II. It means using the Spider Web Strategy improve students writing score in some aspects such as Organization, Content, Grammar, Punctuation and Mechanic, and Style. There is great improvement in descriptive text writing skill after being taught by using the Spider Web Strategy.
