Reading is one of the language skills that plays an important role in gaining knowledge and technology. People can follow the world development through reading, It does not matter which language is used in the reading material read.
English is taught as the first foreign language in Junior High School in Indonesia. The English teaching and learning process is done by the integrated techniques that put special emphasis on reading
Some experts offer some good reading strategy which may help the readers to understand the reading materials. The strategy chosen by the readers will support the reading activity. The kind of the reading strategy used may influence the result of the reading comprehension activity.
Based on the researcher's point of view, the reading strategy will give much influence to the English reading comprehension skill, so the researcher puts forward two hypotheses as follows:
1. There is a significant correlation between the reading strategy and the English reading comprehension skill of the third year students of SLTP Marganingsih Muntilan, Magelang Regency in the school year 1999/2000.
2. There is a significant support by the reading strategy in the English reading comprehension skill of the third year students of SLTT Marganingsih Muntilan, Magelang Regency in the school year 1999/2000.
