English is the first foreign language which is important for transferring and developing science, technology, arts, diplomatic relations and other'fields. English is the only compulsory foreign language which must be tought from the first class of junior high school up to the third class of senior high school. In the modern era which is marked by the increasing of science, technology and diplomatic relations, the need of mastering English is very important and so is the teaching of it . English has been taught at SLTP and SMU as a compulsory subject and a local subject at Elementary School since 1 9 9 4 , especially in class four, class five, and class six. The result of teaching English at present, however, is not satisfactory yet.
