SKRIPSI PENGARUH NILAI BIDANG STUDI BAHASA INGGRIS DALAM EBTANAS DI SMP TERHADAP NILAI SUMATIF MURNI BIDANG STUDI BAHASA INGGRIS YANG DIMILIKI SISWA SEMESTER I DI SMA BHAKTI AWAM AMBARAWA TAHUN AJARAN 1991/1992
THE INFLUENCE OF THE ENGLISH MARK IN THE NATIONAL FINAL EXAMINATION AT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL TOWARDS THE STUDENTS' PURE ENGLISH SUMMATIVE MARK ON THE FIRST SEMESTER AT BHAKTI AWAM SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN AMBARAWA 1991/1992.
In order to improve the educational quality of schools, the government has implemented the National Final Examination system. By holding this examination, it is expected that the educational quality of all schools in Indonesia will improve. A student's achievement in the National Final Examination at Junior High School will influence their academic performance in continuing their education to Senior High School. The results of this examination are also hoped to simplify the procedures for selecting new students for higher education institutions.
In this context, the researcher aims to determine whether the English mark in the National Final Examination has any influence on the students' English summative mark on the first semester at Bhakti Awam Senior High School in Ambarawa for the academic year 1991/1992. This research involves 60 first-semester students from Bhakti Awam Senior High School, selected using a quota random sampling technique, with lots used to determine the sample. The researcher uses document analysis as the primary method of data collection, supported by observation and interview methods.
To analyze the collected data, the researcher employs the Coefficient Product Moment formula with Raw Score Method, Simple Linear Regression, and Average Difference Analysis. Based on the results, the researcher concludes that the English mark in the National Final Examination at Junior High School has a significant influence on the pure English summative mark in the first semester at Senior High School.
The research shows that the English mark in the National Final Examination has a strong correlation with the pure English summative mark on the first semester at Senior High School. The empirical Product Moment correlation coefficient (r) for the 60 students is +0.691, which is higher than the critical r-value of +0.254 from the r-table, indicating a positive relationship. Therefore, the first hypothesis is proven true.
Additionally, the regression analysis demonstrates that an increase in the National Final Examination mark results in a corresponding increase in the summative English mark in the first semester. The regression calculation confirms that the second hypothesis is also correct.
Finally, the average difference analysis shows a significant difference in the English marks between students with high and low National Final Examination marks. The t-value of 2.4093 exceeds the t-table value of 2.000, supporting the third hypothesis.
Based on these findings, it is recommended that school principals enhance the educational strategies and facilities to support teaching and learning processes. Furthermore, additional lessons should be provided to help students succeed in their academic journeys. Parents are also encouraged to actively support their children's education, as their involvement has a significant impact on students' achievements.
