They find it difficult to express their ideas and imagination in making a text while still paying attention to the grammar rules. Grammar is considered one of the most important aspects in writing. Although some research stated that creative thinking is more important than the rules. This research aims to know if there is any correlation between students’ grammar mastery and their creative writing performance and if there is any correlation, how great is the impact of grammar mastery on EFL students’ creative writing performance.Quantitative approach was used to do this research. There were 32 students who became participants in this research from the students who met the criteria from the writer. This research used a purposive sampling where they had to be in the same class since the previous semester. The instrument of this study was documentation and a set of questionnaire. The data obtained was then being analyzed using Pearson Product-Moment Correlation and Likert Scale. The result of this research showed that the significant value (Sig.) of the data is 0.022, which means that the significant value is less than the alpha (0.05). The r-score showed 0.403 which means that there is a moderate correlation between EFL students’ grammar mastery and their creative writing performance. The likert scale shows that 87.5% participants agreed that grammar does affect writing. Using a regression analysis, it shows that grammar had around 16.2% influence on creative writing performance. Therefore, it can be concluded that grammar mastery had a positive correlation with creative writing performance with a moderate category and grammar mastery is very impactful on creative writing performance. The writer hopes that this research could be a reference for students to make a better writing, for teachers to make a better teaching process, and to other researcher to make a further research on this topic.
