SKRIPSI KONTRIBUSI DISIPLIN BELAJAR TERHADAP PRESTASI BELAJAR BAHASA INGGRI SISWA KELAS 2 SLTP 4 MAGELANG
There are so many factors that influence students' English achievement. The
factors can come from both intrinsic and extrinsic factor. Intrinsic factors can be student
motivation, discipline and so forth , while extrinsic factors can be students' environment
and their friends and family motivation. The writer in thi s research tried to conduct the
research entitled the contribution of Discipline of study Toward E ngJish Study
Achievement of the Second Year of SLTP Magelang in the School Year 2002/2003.
The purpose of conducting this research is to know whether or not there is a
contribution of discipline of study toward English study achievement of the second year
students of SL TP 4 Magelang in the school year 2002/2003 and to know how high
students' contribution of discipline of study toward their English achievement.
The type of the research is quantitative research type. The population of the
research is all second year students of SL TP 4 Magelang amount to 40 % by using
proportional random sampling, 64 students. The research variables are not free variables
(X) that is discipline of study and bound variable (Y), English study achievement of the
second year student of SLTP 4 Magelang in the school year 2002/2003 . The method of
collecting data used questionnaire and documentation method. Then the obtained data are
analyzed by using correlation test and linier regression. The result of the research showed that the level of students' discipline of SLTP 4
Magelang in the school year 2003/2004, in odd semester classified medium or average is
6, 53 . There is a contribution of discipline of study toward English study achjevement of
the second year 2002/2003, is showed by F-calculation, 22, 388 so Ho ·is refused arid Ha
is accepted. The contribution of discipline study (X) toward study achjevement CY) is
26,63 %. The research showed that students who had high NEM, when they came into the
school, their English study achievement was low because they have low discipline in
study. Otherwise, students with low NEM when they came in the school, their English
study achievement was high because they may be have high discipline too. It showed that
low achievement in English subject in SLTP Magelang caused by students' discipline .
this result is appropriate with an opinion that students ' achievement are caused by
internal factor that comes from the student itself, such as discipline of study. High
Discipline student tends to have high intrinsic motivation and high responsibility to study
as well. Based on the result above, English teacher is advised to effort increasing and
developing student's discipline of study in order to increase students' achievement and
for school, it is better to complete both infrastructures and superstructure in study, also to
make a conducive environment in order to develop awareness of the importance of
discipline of study and can increase students' achievement.
