Based on the Junior High School Instruction Program Outline (Garis- Garis Besar Program Pengajaran), English is one of the compulsory subjects in the Junior High School which function as a self-developing means for students in the field of science, technology, art and culture according. So, they can grow and develop to be intelligent and skillful citizens who have strong personality, who are ready to participate in the national development. However, the reality is not the same as the expectation. The English competence of the third grade of Junior High School students is still low. This fact can be seen from the average mark of the national final examination of the state and priyate Junior High School in Magelang regency in the school year of 1998/1999 which is 6,47 for state Junior High Schools and which is 5,71 for private Junior High School.
The objectives of this research are to find out whether there is an influence of the teacher's effort in motivating the Junior High School students on their English achievement, and to know how much contribution that is given by teacher's effort on students' achievement in Magelang regency in the school year of 1998/1999.
The researcher puts forward two hypotheses as follows:
1. There is a significant correlation between the teacher's effort in motivating students on the Junior High School students' English achievement.
2. There is a significant support by the teacher's effort in motivating students on the Junior High School students' English achievement.

The result of this research can be seen as follows: (1) The teacher's effort in motivating students is considered as sufficient because the grade is around 69 to 95; (2) The relationship between teacher's effort to motivate students and the Junior High School students' English achievement is quite strong. It is proven by the number that is obtained from the result of correlation analysis, that is 0,664 which is higher than Fable, that is 0,361 and the result of Linear Regression
