Writing is in fact an activity of putting down graphic symbols, which must be meaningful ccording to the accepted rules of the language.
The objectives of this research are to prove that there is a positive influence of students' writing ability to determine pronouns in sentence context to English writing skill and to find out if there is a significant contribution of students ability to determine pronouns in sentence context to writing skill. Accordingly, the researcher puts forward two hypotheses as follows:
1. There is a significant correlation between students' ability to determine pronouns in sentence context and their writing skill.
2. The ability to determine pronouns in sentence context has a positive contribution to English writing skill.
To prove the hypotheses above, the researcher carried out a research. The type of this research is quantitative because the data consist of figures and she used statistical formulas to analyze them. The research was carried out at SLTP Bhina Putra Tegalrejo Magelang Regency on 29 th August, 2002. The population of the research consisted of all of the third-year students of the school numbering 83, where as the number of samples was 30 out of the number of population. The researcher took the samples by Random Sampling Technique.
There are two variables in this research namely the ability to determine pronouns in sentence context as the independent variable symbolized with the letter X, and the students' English Writing Skill as the dependent variable symbolized with the letter Y.
The result of the product moment correlation analysis is, 0,907 and the correlation value of the product moment analysis at 5% of the level of significance is 0,361. It shows that the r count is higher than the figure shown on ther table, therefore, there is a significant influence of the students ability to determine pronouns in sentence context to their English writing skill. To know the contribution given by the ability to determine pronouns in sentence context to English writing skill, she analyzed the data by linear regression formulas. The result of the analysis is: Y3,816+4,883 (X). It means that each increase of one unit of one standard deviation of the ability to determine pronouns in sentence context will be followed by the increase of one unit of one standard deviation of English writing skill. The percentage of contribution of the ability to determine pronouns in sentence context to English writing skill is 12,75% and the rest 87,25% is influenced by other factors
