AN ANALYSIS OF CHRACTERS IN DANIEL DEFOE'S NOVEL "ROBINSON CRUSOE"
Literature is a kind of art,it Usually writes that offers plusieumination education, and even moral values. Literature reflects human life in their interaction with others, surrounding, their God and themselves. Reading termy Sction is not merely passive activity, but one that demands both anemtion and insight lending participation. It allows the readers to feel as if they were involved in the story. Reading linerature with internal and integrative motivation will bring advantages such as wisdom, knowledge, cross-cultural understanding and sew experience. Nevertheless, a good and critical reader will not take it for granted ce read novel merely to kill the time. A curiosity of anything in the novel itself will lead to such analysis. Due to this thing, an analysis of characters on the novel "Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe is considered something worthy. This analysis is carried out to explore how Daniel Defoe characterizes the characters through their physical appearance and personality.
This analysis is an analytic descriptive study. In collecting dang, the writer used closes reading, while in analyzing data the writer using combination of objective approach and psychological approach and then present it in the form of narrative explanation.
Based on the data analysis, it was found that Robinson Crusoe was the main character of the story. In the development, the exisamor of this character is accompanied by many other characters, which are minor, such as Crusoe's father, Xury, Captain of the Portuguese ship, Friday, and Captain of the mutinied ship. Each of characters has different personality. Like Crusoe who was an idealistic, rebellious, emotional mas and nominal Christian but after many experiences, his character changes into a better one. We can see that human's character is nor absolutely the same as when he or she was lom.
This novel teaches us to never give up although we live in a hard and bad condition, we have to struggle to get what we want. As saying "After black clouds there will always be a silver lining"
