SKRIPSI PENGARUH MENGIDENTIFIKASI KATA KERJA DALAM KONTEKS KALIMAT TERHADAP KETERAMPILAN MEMBACA PEMAHAMAN BAHASA INGGRIS SISWA KELAS II SLTP NEGERI 2 BANDONGAN KABUPATEN MAGELANG TAHUN PELAJARAN 2001/2002
English is a compulsory subject at SLTP. In this case, reading often gets the most time in teaching allotment to be taught in class. In fact, the English reading comprehension skill of the students is still low. It is true if we see the average mark of the reading comprehension competition of the second year students of SLTP Negeri 2 Bandongan in the 2001/2002 school year, which is only 5.5.
There are several factors which influence the English reading comprehension skill. One of them is the ability in identifying verbs in sentence context. We know that there are some verbal forms of English that make difficulty for Indonesian students to comprehend them where as the verb forms are very influential to the sentence meaning.
Based on the problem above, this research is intended to prove that the ability in identifying verbs in sentence context has a significant correlation to the English reading comprehension skill of the second year student of SLTP Negeri 2 Bandongan in the school year 2001/2002. Before the research the researcher put forward two hypothesis as follow:
1. There is a significant influence of the ability in identifying verbs in sentence context on the English comprehension skill.
2. There is significant contribution of the ability in identifying verbs in sentence context to the English comprehension skills.
In order to find out whether the hypothesis can be accepted or not, the researcher made an experiment. She took 40 out of 112 second year students of SLTP Negeri 2 Bandongan, Magelang regency as samples and used the random sampling technique with a lottery to decide the samples. After the data were collected, they were analyzed with the formula of product moment correlation to know the coefficient between the ability of identifying verbs in sentence context and the English reading comprehension skill. Then the result was consulted to r table. And the sample linear regression formula with F test was used to know the amount of contribution given by the ability of identifying the verbs in sentence context to the English reading comprehension skill.
