Basically, the teaching of language in schools has the same purpose; that is to make students acquire the four-language skills-speaking, listening, reading, and writing. According to the 1994 SLTP curriculum, writing is not taught separately but it is taught intergratedly with speaking, listening, reading, and writing; so, students have to master writing skill in English well. They should try to improve their writing skill actively. It means that they are not only satisfied with the techniques in writing given by their teacher, but they must also build their writing skill with their own efforts.
One of the ways to do is mastering tenses. By studying tenses a lot, students will get a lot of information and ideas and can also improve and enlarge their writing skill. To write, students should have enough skill. To achieve a good result of writing, the teacher must be able to raise his or her students' mastery in tenses and motivate them, because without good mastery in tenses and motivating them it will be impossible for the students to achieve a good result in writing.
