SKRIPSI KEEFEKTIFAN TEKNIK PQ4R DALAM PEMBELAJARAN MEMBACA BAHASA INGGRIS BAGI SISWA TINGKAT II ADMINISTRASI PERKANTORAN SMK NEGERI 2 MAGELANG TAHUN PELAJARAN 2006 / 2007

English is one of the most widely used international languages. In Indonesia, it is taught from the primary school up to the university. However, the students' achievement of the English reading is not satisfactory yet because of several factors. One of them is the monotonous technique of teaching. Dealing with the problem, the researcher conducted a research on the effectiveness of PQ4R technique in teaching reading. From the above explanation, the researcher formulated the following hypotheses.
1. There is a significant difference between the application of PQ4R and SQ3R on the achievement of English reading skill.
2. There is a significant contribution the application of PQ4R Technique on the achievement of the students reading skill.
To prove the hypotheses, the researcher conducted a research to the second year students of SMKN 2 Magelang on 20 September until 6 October 2006. The researcher took 80 students as samples. Then those students were divided into two groups. The first group, called the experiment group was treated by using Three Phase Technique and PQ4R technique in teaching learning process of reading. The second group, the control group, was treated by using Three Phase Technique and SQ3R in teaching learning process of reading. The results of those teachings were compared to each other to see whether there was a different mean or not. Then, to now whether the difference mean was significant or not, t-test was applied. The result of the t-test was then consulted to the table of significance level.
The result of the statistical calculations showed that the mean of the experiment group (6,525) was higher than that of the control one (5,75). While the result of the t-test was (4,7546). It is higher than t-table (1,99406) of the significant level of 5%.
Finally, the researcher draws a conclusion that there are different results between the teaching leaming process of reading skill that applies PQ4R and that. Therefore the researcher suggests that English teachers should apply PQ4R Technique in their teaching learning process of reading. So that students would get good results.
