The students' ability in reading can be influenced by two factors, the linguistic and non linguistic factors. The linguistic factor is for example the structure. It includes the sentence patterns, vocabulary, syntax, phonology etc.The non linguistic factors are background, talent or human resources, motivation, interest and inteligence. These two factors influence much to the students' English learning achievement, expecially their reading ability. Here, the writer will state that the students' ability in the linguistic factors also depended on the non linguistic factors.This research is aimed to prove that the mastery of the English sentence patterns influences the reading ability significantly. This research is also aimed to know the contribution given by the mastery of the English sentence pattern to the reading ability.Since English is the most important foreign language in Indonesia, it must betaught to the students effectively in the Junior and the Senior High schools, even earlier in the fifth grade of the Elementary schools. From the above explanation the writer puts forward hypothesis as folows:
1. There is significant influence of the mastery of the English sentence pattern towards the reading ability of the students.
2. There is a significant contribution of the mastery of the English sentence pattern towards the reading ability of the students.
