SKRIPSI PENGARUH AKTIVITAS GURU DALAM PKG TERHADAP PRESTASI BELAJAR BAHASA INGGRIS SISWA KELAS I SLTP SE-KOTAMADIA MAGELANG TAHUN PELAJARAN 1997/1998

The purpose of this research in to prove that teacher activity in-Service Training of Teachers (PKG) has a significant correlation to the English achievement of the First-Your Students of Junior High School in Magelang Municipality the School Year 1997/1998.

English has been taught since the first year of Junior High School up to the Senior High School and the University in Indonesia. The result of teaching-learning process of the subject, however, is not satisfactory yet as see the English achievement of the Junior High School students is still poor.

There are several factors which influence the English achievement. One of the factors influencing it is teacher activity in-Service Training of Teachers (PKG). In the researcher's point of view, English teachers play an important role in determining the English achievement.

To prove her hypotheses, she conducted a research on the influence of teacher activity in-Service Training of Teachers (PKG) to the English achievement of the first-year students of Junior High School in Magelang Municipality in the school year 1997/1998.

She took all the Junior High Schools in Magelang Municipality, both state and private ones, numbering 19 as samples. There are two variables which are going to be correlated; those are teacher activity in-Service Training of Teachers (PEG) as independent variable and students English achievement as dependent variable.

To understand that the teacher activity in-Service Training of Teachers (PKG) has a significant correlation to English achievement, she used the product moment correlation formula. The result of her analysis shows that the rh in 0.728. Then she consulted with table with degree of independence (db): 1 and number of samples (N): 18. The r table is 0,456. It means that r is higher than re (0.7280,456).

Based on the result, she concludes that teacher activity in Service-Training of Teachers (PKG) has s significant achievement. correlation to the Students" English

To understand the contribution of teacher motivity in-Service Training of Teachers (FIG) to the students" English achievement, she used the linear regression formula.
