SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ACTIVE KNOWLEDGE SHARING STRATEGY IN TEACHING WRITING SKILLS AT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Keywords: Writing skills, Narrative Text, Active Knowledge Sharing strategy.
English is an important language that plays a key role in global development. In countries where English is a second language, education is the main way people learn it. In secondary schools, including senior high schools, English is taught as a foreign language and is a required subject. Writing skills are important for effective communication in modern life, even though they are not always needed for daily conversations in English. Writing requires students to express their ideas clearly and logically. Teachers play an important role in guiding students to plan and communicate their thoughts effectively. One useful method for this is the Active Knowledge Sharing strategy, which helps students engage with the material, work together, and assess their understanding.
This study examines the effectiveness of the Active Knowledge Sharing (AKS) strategy in improving writing skills among 12th-grade students at SMA N 2 Magelang. Writing is a critical skill that involves creativity, critical thinking, and effective communication, yet many students face challenges such as poor grammar, difficulty organizing thoughts, and lack of practice. Traditional, teacher-centered methods often fail to address these challenges fully. To address this, the study investigates whether the AKS learning strategy can enhance students' writing proficiency, specifically in narrative text composition.
Using a pre-experimental design, the study involved 36 students from a single class (XII F 4). A pre-test was administered to assess students' initial writing abilities, followed by five lessons incorporating AKS, and a post-test to evaluate improvement. The data was analyzed using paired sample t-tests to compare pre- test and post-test scores. The results revealed a significant improvement in students' writing skills, with the mean score increasing from 75.11 in the pre-test to 85.19 in the post-test with a percentage of 13.33% The t-test analysis (T-test (11.952) > T- table (1.690)) confirmed that the difference was statistically significant, indicating that AKS significantly enhanced students' writing skills.
The study suggests that AKS fosters, critical thinking, and creativity, enabling students to improve their grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, and writing proficiency. By shifting from a teacher-center to a student-center learning environment, AKS also boosts students' confidence in expressing their ideas and asking questions. The findings underscore the potential of AKS as an innovative teaching strategy for enhancing writing skills and recommend its implementation in English classrooms to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
