SKRIPSI ANALYZING THE DIFFICULTY LEVEL AND COGNITIVE DOMAIN OF ELT MULTIPLE-CHOICE TESTS IN MERDEKA CURRICULUM SUMMATIVE TEST AT SMA NEGERI 2 MAGELANG

Assessment activities in schools are an integral part of the learning process, serving to reflect individual students' understanding and measure their progress. Additionally, assessment involves evaluating the quality of test items, including an analysis of difficulty levels and the implementation of cognitive domains in the questions used. The evaluation aims to ensure that the test items are not only aligned with students' abilities but also support the achievement of learning objectives. The objectives of this undergraduate thesis are to find out how the difficulty level of multiple-choice tests in the Merdeka curriculum summative test at SMA Negeri 2 Magelang, and to describe how the implementation of cognitive domain of multiple-choice tests in the Merdeka curriculum summative test at SMA Negeri 2 Magelang.
The study employed a mixed-method approach with an explanatory sequential design. The ANATES program was utilized to collect and analyze quantitative data, specifically focusing on the difficulty levels of multiple-choice test items in summative test. For the qualitative data, three concurrent activities are, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification, were conducted to analyze the cognitive domain.
The result of quantitative data was analyzed using ANATES is the difficulty level of the English summative test questions at SMA Negeri 2 Magelang for the academic year 2023/2024 is 94.1% in the easy category and 5.8% in the medium category. Therefore, the writer can conclude that the difficulty level of the English summative test questions at SMA Negeri 2 Magelang for the academic year 2023/2024 is considered easy. The result for qualitative data based on the cognitive domain analysis conducted by the writer on the English summative test questions at SMA Negeri 2 Magelang for the academic year 2023/2024, it was found that the summative test covered C1 (29,41%), C2 (50%), C3 (14.7%), C4 (5,8%), C5(0%) and C6 (0%). The writer concludes that the summative test questions at SMA Negeri 2 Magelang for the academic year 2023/2024 fall under the LOTS category, dominated by questions at the C2 (Understanding) level. Therefore, teachers are expected to evaluate the quality of summative test questions used in student assessment. In addition, it is hoped that the preparation of question items in the following years can be further improved to encourage students to think more critically, in line with the level of thinking expected in the applicable curriculum.
