SKRIPSI AN ANALYSIS OF DIFFICULTY LEVEL AND DISTRACTORS EFFECTIVENESS ON ENGLISH SUMMATIVE TEST ITEMS IN SMP N 3 SECANG

Evaluation plays an important role in improving the quality of education, one of which is through the use of tests as a measurement tool. A good test must meet the criteria of validity, reliability, objectivity, practicality, and economy. Item analysis is needed to ensure that the test meets these criteria by evaluating the difficulty level, discrimination, and distractor effectiveness.
This study aims to analyze the difficulty level and distractor effectiveness of English summative test items at SMP N 3 Secang. It uses a quantitative descriptive method with instruments in the form of multiple-choice and essay questions, student answer sheets, and answer keys. Data were analyzed using the AnatesV4 application to determine validity, reliability, and level of difficulty, while the effectiveness of distractors uses a manual formula.
The results showed that out of 20 multiple-choice questions, only 9 test items were valid (45%), while the other 11 test items were invalid (55%). Invalid test items were removed from further analysis. The reliability of multiple-choice questions was in the moderate category with a value of 0.51. For essay questions, out of 5 items tested, 4 items were declared valid (80%) and 1 item was invalid (20%), with a relatively low reliability (0.36). Analysis of the level of difficulty showed that 88.9% of multiple-choice questions were in the moderate category, while 11.1% were classified as difficult. All essay questions were included in the moderate category (100%). In addition, the analysis of the effectiveness of distractors in multiple-choice questions showed that 90.625% of distractors were effective, while 9.375% were ineffective.
