SKRIPSI THE EFFECTIVENESS OF WEBTOON AND SHARED READING METHOD IN TEACHING READING SKILLS OF NARRATIVE TEXT AT SMP N 3 MUNTILAN IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2024/2025

Reading English in this modern times, is very important because language is our tool to communicate with people around the world. Reading is the ability that allows writers and readers to communicate in written text. Based on the writer's observations at SMP Negeri 3 Muntilan, the writer found problems that might become obstacles in reading. Problems in learning reading occured from the side of the teacher and students. The writer focused on the problem of the media and learning method used by teachers are not interactive. The writer also limited this study to teaching narrative text reading using webtoon and shared reading method to improve students’ reading skill.
The purpose of this study was: (1) to find out whether there is a significant difference in students’ narrative text reading skills of the eighth graders of SMPN 3 Muntilan between those who are taught by using webtoon and shared reading method and those who are taught by using a textbook. (2) to find out how effective webtoon in teaching narrative text reading skills to the eighth graders of SMP N 3 Muntilan.
This study was experimental research. The sample of this research was 64 students from two classes of eighth graders from SMPN 3 Muntilan. The sample was collected by purposive sampling. The writer used reading test as the research instrument. It was conducted pre-test and post-test for reading test. The data was analyzed using quantitavive method. The reading test was analyzed using SPSS conducted classical test (normality test, homogeneity test) and Hypothesis testing (independent sample t-test).Based on the independent sample t-test result, namely value Sig. (2 tailed) obtained was 0.002 which means lower than 0.05. It can be stated that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted and means there was significant difference in the writing skill between the students who were taught by using webtoon and sharereading method and those who were taught by using textbook. It can be concluded that using webtoon and shared reading method is effective to see the significant different in teaching narrative text reading skill.
