SKRIPSI AN ANALYSIS OF TEACHERS’ STRATEGIES IN TEACHING SPEAKING SKILL BY THE IMPLEMENTATION OF KURIKULUM MERDEKA AT SMP NEGERI 3 MAGELANG

Appropriate teaching strategies can help students achieve the learning goals in the class. So, it is essential for the teacher to choose suitable strategies to implement in teaching and learning. This research aims to know the teachers’ strategies for teaching speaking skills at eighth-grade students. It focused on describing the teachers’ strategies in teaching speaking skill and the teachers’ problems in implementing the strategies for eighth-grade students.
This research used descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research are two English teachers at SMP Negeri 3 Magelang. In collecting data, this research used observation, interview, and video recording. This research used theory from Kayi (2006) to identify the data about strategies in teaching speaking skills and Penny Ur (2009) about teachers’ problem in teaching speaking. To validated the data, this research used triangulation data. The findings of this research show that in teaching speaking, teachers used
discussion and role play. The problem faced by the teacher in implementing the strategies are inhibition, nothing to say, and mother tongue used. The appropriate teachers’ strategies that suitable with the students’ characteristic in the class can make the students were active, interested in joining the class activities, and can on time in finished their assignments. On the other hand, inappropriate teachers’ strategies can make the students bored and cannot finish the assignment on time and teachers must give additional time. Hopefully, this research can be used as information and a reference for subsequent esearch.
