SKRIPSI THE IMPLEMENTATION OF GENRE-BASED APPROACH IN ENGLISH TEACHERS’ LESSON PLAN FOR THE TENTH GRADERS OF SMA NEGERI 1 BANDONGAN BASED ON KURIKULUM MERDEKA
Genre-Based Approach (GBA) has been implemented as a pedagogical approach in
Kurikulum Merdeka to enhance students’ literacy and communicative competence.
By emphasizing genre or text type structures and language features, GBA aims to
align classroom practices with real-life communication context, However, the
teachers still face several challenges in implementing teaching procedures of GBA,
which make it difficult to implement in the lesson plan and classroom practice.
This study investigates the implementation of teaching procedures of Genre
based Approach in English teachers’ lesson plans for the tenth graders at SMA
Negeri 1 Bandongan based on Kurikulum Merdeka. This study aims to find out how
English teacher implemented the teaching procedures of Genre-based Approach in
the lesson plans and find out the difficulties encountered by the teacher during its
implementation.
This study employs descriptive qualitative to examine how Genre-based
approach are implemented in the lesson plans. The data are collected through
documentation from six lesson plan developed by the teachers and semi structured
interviews with the teacher.
The findings reveal that the teachers implemented the four stages of
teaching procedures of Genre-based approach in all six lesson plans. However,
several stages were not implemented optimally, particularly in BKOF stage, where
teacher gave model texts to the students, impacting the subsequent stage, MOT,
where the activities focused on explanations of structure and linguistic features.
Meanwhile, JCOT were more optimally implemented, with students beginning to
construct text under teacher guidance, as was ICOT stage, where students begin
construct text independently. Identified difficulties included teachers in utilizing
technology, time constraints, and difficulties in relating the material to current
events and students’ needs. Overall, this study highlights that the teaching
procedures of Genre-based approach were not fully implemented effectively in the
teacher's lesson plans. This may have been influenced by various challenges the
teacher faced during the implementation in the lesson plans.
