SKRIPSI INVESTIGATING STUDENTS READING STRATEGIES ON RECOUNT TEXT FOR EIGHTH GRADERS AT SMP N 3 MUNTILAN IN THE SCHOOL YEAR OF 2024/2025

In Junior High School, the students have to comprehend the text because they have to master the whole passage of the text. Based on the level of literacy, they involve in informational level. In this case, they have to understand the meaning of the content and deliver the idea from the recount text. However, the students in SMP Negeri 3 Muntilan did not aware the strategy is very important in reading. They did not know if they have to use any strategies in understanding the recount text. They did not know the appropriate strategy based on their ability. Related to the problem above, this research has objective to identify the strategies on recount text that were used by eighth graders of SMP Negeri 3 Muntilan in the school year 2024/2025. Besides, this research also determined which dominant type of reading strategy on recount text used by eighth graders of SMP Negeri 3 Muntilan in the school year of 2024/2025. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The subject of the research was class VIII E which consists of 32 students. The writer did the observation and gave the questionnaire to collect the data. For observation result, there are 46.09% students who used cognitive strategy. Meanwhile for metacognitive strategy, there are 73.43% students who used this strategy. Observation for socio affective strategy showed that there are 39.84% of students used this strategy. For questionnaire result, the percentage for cognitive strategy is 69.88%. There are 96.96% of the students used metacognitive strategy. For socio-affective strategy, there are only 35.24% of the students who used socio-affective strategy. The result revealed that the students mostly used the metacognitive strategy while reading on recount text to improve their reading skill. The students mostly underlying the important point of the recount text and making paraphrase by their own word to understand the recount text.
